Halloween Party, Story, Meaning, The Pumpkins And The Story Of Jack O'Lantern

The Halloween Party was born a thousand years, as reported by holidays.net, comes from the Celtic Population. The Celts, who lived hundreds of years ago in Great Britain and Northern North France, worshiped and celebrated Nature and many Gods, especially the Sun God.

The word Halloween, as quoted by Wikipedia, is a contraction of All Hallows' Evening words, and it means "Holy Evening" or "Holy Evening".

The Celts celebrated the arrival of the New Year on November 1, with an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. This celebration marked the end of the Season of the Sun and inspired the Dark and Cold Season.

This type of party has had different influences from different cultures, from the Catholic one with the feast of All Saints to the Roman Pomona Day, at the Celtic festival of Samhain.

The celebration consisted of meeting on the hills in the dark oak forest, as the oaks were considered sacred, the Celtic priests called Drudi lighted fires and offered sacrifices of crops and animals to the gods. All this was happening as they danced around the fire that was previously switched on.

On November 1, the Celts wore costumes made from the skins and heads of their animals during the festival called Samhain.

The Romans subsequently invaded Great Britain by bringing with them the Samhain Festival and its costumes. They christened Pomona Day and took place on the first November.

Later in 835 AD, the Catholic Church created on November 1st a celebration called All Saints and on November 2 a celebration to honor the dead called The Day of the Dead.

Today, the Halloween party encapsulates all these traditions, apples, nuts of Pomona Day, black cats of the Samhain Festival, spirits, ghosts, skeletons and skulls of All Saints and the Feast of the Dead.

The Pumpkins And The Story Of Jack O'Lantern

The practice of carving the Pumpkins and then inserting them into a lantern, comes from an Irish Tradition precisely by a man named "Stingy Jack."

The story tells that Jack, a smart blacksmith, avaricious and drunk, one evening at the pub met the Devil. Because of his state of being drunk, his soul was almost in the hands of the Devil, but cleverly, Jack asked him to turn into a coin promising his soul for a last drink. He then quickly put the Devil in his bag, next to a silver cross, so that he could not retract. To get rid of the Devil, he promised he would not have taken his soul in the next ten years and Jack let him go. Ten years later, the Devil appeared again and this time Jack asked him to pick an apple from a tree before taking his soul. In order to prevent the Devil from descending from the branch, Jack will incise a cross on the trunk. Only after a long battle the two came to a compromise: in exchange for freedom, the Devil would have to save Jack's eternal damnation.

During his life he committed so many sins that, when he died, was rejected by heaven and presented himself to Hell, was driven away by the Devil who remembered the covenant, happy to let him err as tormented soul. To the observation that it was cold and dark, the Devil pulled him a fiery bell, which Jack put in a turnip he had with him. From that moment on, he began to wander without respite in search of a place to rest.
